1943 proved U.S. airpower could reach German ports; 2026 shows Berlin investing in reach of its own—long-endurance SeaGuardians extending NATO’s maritime surveillance and future ASW.
I had the privilege of being the first Boeing instructor to teach the P8 (737NG) airframe to German Navy aircraft maintenance technicians on their base in Germany in 2023. Throughly enjoyed the experience. The Air Museum at the entrance to the base is a “must do” if you’re ever in that part of the country. https://aeronauticum.de/
Thanks Jeff and what a privilege it must have been to be the first instructor for the German P-8 crews - that museum looks amazing - I will have to check it out sometime!
Thank you Branden and agreed - nothing quite like the 17...I'm working my way backwards with bomber videos, I've done B-2, B-1, B-52, B-47, and B-36...B-29 is next and then B-24 and then B-17. I'll post links to those future videos in future newsletter issues - thanks for being a reader of the newsletter!
Great piece on the SeaGuardian acquisition. The interoperability angle with NATO partners using the same platform is underrated, common training and maintenance pipelines save a ton of friction when you need rapid coalition deployments. The sonobuoy processing onboard is a game-changer for ASW missions, basically turns the drone into a persistent underwater listener without tying up manned P-8s. That 30-40hr loiter time beats human endurance every tim.

Well worth the visit if you’re ever near Bremerhaven.
Great article. I got to walk through and tour the B-17 Sentimental Journey at an airshow. Love those things.
