“The Wright brothers created the single greatest cultural force since the invention of writing.” – Tom Wolfe
Thank you for joining my hangar talks! If you are reading this, then you are an aviation enthusiast - friends and family may not “get” your love of aviation, but you’ve come to the right place! So, what can you expect? Well, this is the first issue and the working format I have is:
On the radar: Current events in military aviation or what I am currently working on.
This week in aviation history: an aviation fact or event that is relevant to the week that each issue is released.
In case you missed it: a previous video, podcast interview, or other content that you may have missed.
OK enough preamble let’s take a look at the firs issue of Hangar Talk with TOG!
On the radar
There have been some updates to the Next Generation Air Dominance or NGAD fighter, I am currently working on an updated video all about the NGAD, including a new concept 3D model which is based on what I think the NGAD will look like. Will time prove me wrong? Only time will tell. This video will have many rendered scenes, so look for it in about two weeks. Fun fact: A high quality 10 second render can take up to 8 hours on my computer - but I think (and hopefully you do as well) that it is worth it.
This week in aviation history
15 May 1967 Major Charles Kettles (pictured below)
flies his UH-1 Huey into a hotly contested LZ during the Vietnam war, and then returns two more times - always under fire - to extract American servicemen. For his third and final trip Kettles volunteered to fly his lone helicopter to retrieve the last 8 soldiers, without tactical support from other aircraft or assets. His actions would earn him the Medal of Honor. You can read more details here on the Army’s website:
Lieutenant Colonel Charles Kettles | Medal of Honor Recipient | U.S. Army
In case you missed it
Since this is the first issue of Hangar Talk, I figured I’d go all the way back to the first PilotPhotog video featuring a military aircraft: the F-16. Quick disclaimer: as mentioned, the video is from the early days of the channel, so the production values you are used to are not there, let me know in the video comments what you think:
Direct link just in case: F-16 Fighting Falcon aka Viper
Thanks for reading - and watching - if you know anyone who would be interested in this sort of content, pass this along.
Until next time…. now you know!
